Charles Bohnsack, 

the son of the immigrant John Bohnsack 
Charles Bohnsack was born in 1859 on the farm of his parents Johann and Anna Bohnsack 

(emigrants from Althof, Mecklenburg 1854) near Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. 

He came to the Dakota Territory with his family in 1879 to claim new land for farming. 

He was 19 and they travelled in a covered wagon in the days when prairie trails served as roads. 

His life in North Dakota is a story of hard work under difficult pioneer conditions 

and of participation for the community's welfare, such as road, church and school building and support.

 

 

Eventually he acquired and farmed around 1600 acres in Traill County in what is now called Bohnsack Township

He later purchase ranch land in Ransom County, North Dakota, which is still owned today by 

his granddaughter Bonita Bohnsack - Laske. 

He died at he age of 98 in Fargo and was active into his 90's on the ranch. 

He was married to Hulda Krienke (an immigrant from Posen) and they had five children.
